Giroux-Audet-Rua Agency Wins Community Service Award

Indianapolis, IN, March 6, 2003....The Giroux-Audet-Rua Insurance Agency, Fall River, Massachusetts, won the Rough Notes Community Service Award for their strong support of the United Way of Greater Fall River and numerous other local charities. The agency was recognized as a community leader whose employees contribute time, revenue and educational effort to dozens of community programs. The Rough Notes Company presented a check for $5,000 to Fall River United Way, the agency's designated charity, and also presented the winning firm with a beautiful, sculpted eagle in recognition of contributions to the local community at an award ceremony here on February 27.

Two of the agency's partners, Jack and Jason Rua, were present to receive the award, as was Robert L. Horne, executive director of the Fall River United Way. Horne offered high praise to the Rua brothers and their agency for their long-standing service. "We at the United Way are fortunate to be recipients of the time, talent and treasure of these outstanding community leaders," Horne said, "and of the generosity of the other principals and employees of the agency."

Horne noted that Jack Rua's efforts as chairman of the Fall River United Way in 1998 helped generate more than $2 million in revenue from the annual fund-raising campaign. Jason Rua, who currently chairs the strategic planning committee and was chairman of the executive allocation committee, quipped: "My brother raised the monies, then I gave them out."

The United Way is by no means the sole recipient of the Giroux-Audet-Rua Agency's philanthropy. Jason Rua has been vice president and treasurer for The Marine Museum in Fall River, a coach in the Somerset Little League and the Somerset/Swansea Youth Soccer League, a member of his local elementary school council, and a recipient of Fall River's Brayton Community Service Award in 2002. Jack Rua has been active with the Fall River Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as the United Way and also was a recipient of Fall River Brayton Community Service Award in 1995.

The Rough Notes Company, publisher of the nation's leading independent insurance agency publication, Rough Notes Magazine, collaborated with Robert N. Kretzmer, CIC, vice president of Inner Harbour Insurance Agency, Bethesda, Maryland, to create the Community Service Award in 2000. Kretzmer, who serves as the award's executive director, said, "The Rua firm represents the kind of community service we had in mind when we created the award. It honors those independent insurance brokers and agencies who go the extra mile to give something back to their communities."

Walter J. Gdowski, president and CEO of The Rough Notes Company, added, "Rough Notes is extremely pleased to be able to recognize some of the outstanding agencies and agents who give of themselves. Independent agents have always been extremely generous with their time and their money. Our greatest difficulty is not in finding agents and agencies who deserve the award, but in deciding which ones are the most deserving."
